Judge Reginald P. Cogsworth, a curmudgeon that hates sweets, is judging a charity bakeoff, albeit grudgingly. Countless entries have been whittled down to three: A tart submitted by former delinquent Lucy "Scooter" Bright, owner of a nail salon: a Depression-era cake by Edna Mae Carter, the crazy cat lady and local librarian: and a rich torte created by Margaret Mason, a local snooty society lady that thinks she's a comedian. In the middle of tasting the goodies, the judge drops dead, and it's up to Miss Peabody, the head of the contest and the audience to determine the murderer. Clues are hidden in the theater and even the audience members have had unhappy dealings with the judge in the past. Who can the murderer be?
